1. Top Choice – Hyundai HYM3800E Electric Lawnmower with Roller & Mulching Included

Hyundai HYM3800E Electric Lawnmower

Brand: Hyundai

Blade Size: 38cm

Grass Bag Size: 40 Litres

Power: 1600 Watts

Price & Reviews

Pros

  • Easy empty
  • Foldeable handle for easy storage
  • Lightweight
  • Striped lawn finish

Cons

  • Power Cord could be longer
  • Needs dry grass to work best

Our number 1 choice today is Hyundai with its rotary mower. This is an extremely powerful mower and the 38cm blade will easily cut small to medium lawns up to 250m2. The power cord is 10 meters so you will need an extension cable for larger lawns.

It is fitted with a rear roller so you’ll achieve that beautiful striped finish every time.

The grass bag is a generous 40 liters and it is fixed by a quick release so this makes emptying it an easy and quick task. If you hate emptying the grass collection box then you’ll love the mulching option with this mower. It can finely chop the grass to mulch and disperse it into the lawn which also helps nourish it and is an eco-friendly way to dispose of the clippings.

The cutting deck can be easily adjusted by a central lever to 5 different cutting heights between 20mm-70mm so you’ll get a perfect finish every time. There’s no tricky recoil start with this mower, simply press the safety button and pull a lever to start.

The mower weighs 12.5kg which is very manageable given that it is on wheels. Storage isn’t an issue as the foldable handles make it compact. Overall this is a powerful and versatile mower of good build quality and it leaves a very tidy finish on every lawn.

2. Runner Up – SWIFT 40V EB132CP2 Cordless Lawn Mower Digital

SWIFT 40V EB132CP2 Cordless Lawn Mower

Brand: Swift

Blade Size: 32 cm

Grass Bag Size: 30 Litres

Power: 40 V

Price & Reviews

Pros

  • Good width blade for faster cutting
  • Cordless cutting saves faff
  • No cable to accidentally cut

Cons

  • Handle doesn’t fold down
  • Batery life could be longer

Up next we have Swift with this lithium-ion battery powered push lawnmower. The batteries offer you more freedom than a corded lawn mower and Swift gives you the option to buy this mower with 2 batteries rather than 1. One charged battery should give you approx 250m2 of cutting area so if you upgrade to two batteries you’ll be good for multiple lawns or a large garden as well.

The grass box is a decent size and has a child lock feature so no misuse will happen around children. This mower has central adjusting height settings from 20mm-60mm so easy to get a clean finish. It has a carry handle fitted so simple to move out of storage or to carry over to the lawn. The mower weighs 10.7kg with the battery so is lightweight and easy to move.

The handlebar also has a height adjustment option but it doesn’t sit high enough if you are very tall. This is a better mower for smaller people or if you struggle to lift and push a heavy petrol lawnmower.

3. Best Hover Lawnmower – Flymo Turbo Lite 270 Electric Hover Lawn Mower

Flymo Turbo Lite 270 Electric Hover Lawn Mower

Brand: Flymo

Blade Size: 27 cm

Grass Bag Size: N/A

Power: 1400 Watts

Price & Reviews

Pros

  • Very lightweight
  • No wheel marks
  • No grass bag to empty

Cons

  • Can spread weeds if not careful
  • Not a very wide cutting blade

A hover mower is by the far the most lightweight and easy to maneuver of all the lawnmowers. These mowers are great for small gardens or for lawns that are odd-shaped to encompass things such as pathways and flowerbeds. These mowers work best on short grass and on fairly even surfaces.

This Flymo Turbo Lite lawnmower is a great option where it comes to hover mowing. At only 7.7kg it’s extremely lightweight and the mower works by floating on a cushion of air as it mows This gives it ease of movement but you don’t lose out on the adjustable cutting height options. It has 4 settings between 11-31 mm so you’ll always get your cut grass to the perfect length for the season.

The mower doesn’t have a collection bag. Instead, it recycles the grass clippings back into the lawn. This is good for the health of the lawn but doesn’t leave a very tidy finish. It can also act to spread weeds so that’s worth considering.

4. Best Rotary Lawnmower – Bosch Rotak 32R Electric Rotary Lawnmower

Bosch Rotak 32R Electric Rotary Lawnmower

Brand: Bosch

Blade Size: 32 cm

Grass Bag Size: 31 Litres

Power: 1200 Watts

Price & Reviews

Pros

  • Good for uneven lawns
  • Good cutting up to the edge of your garden
  • Great price

Cons

  • Tricky to assemble
  • Feels a little flimsy

Small yet mighty, should be the caption for this little mower. At only 6.8kg it’s very light yet the hardened steel blade makes this mower suitable for long grass and uneven lawns. It’s one of the lightest hand push mowers out there so very user friendly.

It has grass combs that make it possible to get a tidy finish right up to the edge of your lawn even without using a trimmer.

The powerful motor plus 32cm metal blade means that grass cutting takes no time at all and bumpy or rough smaller lawns are taken care of without any hassle.

It has central height adjust for that perfect finish and the 10 meter is plenty for small gardens. You can always add an extension cable and use this mower for a medium sized garden as well.

The only downside with this mower is that it can be a bit tricky to assemble when it’s brand new.

5. Best Robot Lawnmower – Flymo EasiLife 350 Robotic Lawn Mower

Flymo EasiLife 350 Robotic Lawn Mower

Brand: Flymo

Blade Size: 16 cm

Grass Bag Size: N/A

Power: 18 V

Price & Reviews

Pros

  • Once set up, easy mowing
  • Save time
  • Mulches grass so no clean up

Cons

  • Hard to set up initially
  • Needs a guide wire to follow
  • Pricey

If you hate pushing around a manual lawnmower then this is the best lawnmower one for you. A robotic lawnmower saves you time and hassle as it does all the hard work for you. It is important to consider the installation when you’re thinking of getting a robotic mower. They need a guidewire, ideally underground so that they know where to go. They also need an outdoor charger point that they can return to and this should have some sort of shelter so that the rain won’t get to the power source.

This lawnmower can’t manage much of an incline so if your lawn is more than a 35% slope this model isn’t going to cope. Your lawn needs to be pretty even as well and this mower is intended for smaller gardens up to 350m2. There are also other size options available for large lawns up to 500m2.

If you have a garden that fits these criteria then this Flymo Easilife is ideal. It’s quiet, it self mulches grass so no clean up is required, it is easy to use and comes with a pin protect to help deter thieves. It has a hose attachment which makes keeping it clean really easy. With adjustable cutting height and irregular navigation to prevent track marks your lawn will be looking perfect without any of the hard work.

Things To Consider When Choosing A Small Lawnmower

Area Of Lawn

The size of your lawn helps determine the cutting width necessary to handle the task at hand. For easy estimation, a tennis court is about 200 square meters.

For small lawns (up to 100sqm) you should be ok with a cutting width of around 30 cm, medium lawns (100-250sqm) will need 35-40 cm and larger lawns (250sqm+) will need 40 cm+.

Shape Of Lawn

The layout of your garden will have a big impact on the types of lawnmower that will suit you. A smooth, square lawn can take any mower but the rotary ones will give the neatest finish. If you have an odd-shaped lawn with islands, pathways, and flowerbeds then a hover mower will handle the corners with much more ease than trying to maneuver one with wheels.

Lawn Finish

The finish of your lawn can really make a difference and everyone has a personal preference here. If you are after a striped lawn then a rotary model with a rear roller is best. If you want tidy edges then one with grass combs will help achieve this. If you don’t have anywhere to dump the grass cuttings then a mulching lawnmower will be really useful.

Corded Or Cordless

If you’re going for a small electric mower then you’re likely to be considering a corded electric vs a cordless model. The corded ones work really well but they do limit the area you can cover. If you like the sound of a cordless one it’s worth considering how the battery life will affect your runtime. Even the best cordless lawnmowers can’t handle an area much bigger than the corded ones can. They are better for if you don’t have outside power access rather than for a bigger garden.

Warranty

Make sure you check out the seller’s returns policy before you hit buy on any new lawnmower. Ideally, you want to choose one that has a warranty for at least a year but the longer the better. Most sellers on Amazon have a 30-day returns policy which means you can return the item within that period if you’re not satisfied with your purchase.

F.A.Q.s

Which is the best lawn mower for small gardens?

The top choice for small gardens is the Hyundai electric mower. It’s lightweight, powerful and has loads of handy features that make it suitable for any garden.

What lawn mower is best for uneven ground?

It depends on how rough the lawn is. For gentle bumps, a hover mower may be able to navigate this. If it’s quite uneven then you’ll need a rotary mower with large wheels to cope. A mower with a reasonable height adjust will also allow you to mow over uneven areas with ease.

What is the easiest lawnmower to use?

Electric lawnmowers are by far the easiest to turn on. It’s a simple switch and off you go. Petrol lawnmowers are more powerful but require a lot more upkeep and maintenance so can be more work.

What is the lightest push lawn mower?

Hover mowers are the lightest and easiest to push. They float on a cushion of air so there are no wheels to work with and they won’t get stuck in a soft lawn.

Last but certainly not least, we have a really great cordless mower. The battery charges in 75 minutes and will last for a good 45 minutes of cutting time so you’ll get plenty done. It comes with a rear roller for that perfect striped finish. This goes hand in hand with a 7 level height adjuster between 25 – 75mm to help get a lovely smooth lawn.

The grass collector compresses the clippings as the mower cuts so you’ll get more storage than the standard 35 liters which saves you constantly stopping to empty it.
