Cleaning the floors in your home can be a real nightmare. From filling and carrying heavy buckets of water, having to stop and wring out the mop and you still end up with puddles of water everywhere.
The whole ordeal can take ages and you end up with a sore back or shoulders from all the work.
This is where a spray mop can help. The mop kit has a sprayer built into it so you’re carrying the water with you as you carry the mop. The mophead absorbs the moisture and dirt so there’s no need to rinse and wring it out.
There’s a lot to be said when it comes to spray mops and there are loads of options out there so trying to find the right one for you can be an overwhelming task.
To help out, I’ve trawled through loads of options out there and have come up with this review article so you can easily see the best options for yourself. I’ve included a handy buying guide and some FAQs to help answer any questions you may have.
Quick update: I have reviewed once more Spray Mops in 2024 to make sure I recommend the best ones.
To begin with, I have the top 5 options available in the UK.
Top 5 Best Spray Mops UK
- Top Choice – Vileda 1-2 Spray Microfibre Flat Spray Mop
- Runner Up – Vorfreude Floor Spray Mop
- Best Budget Option – Addis Metallic Spray Mop
- Best Spray Mop For Hardwood Floors – Leifheit Pico Spray Mop
- Best Battery Powered Spray Mop – FLASH Powermop
1. Top Choice – Vileda 1-2 Spray Microfibre Flat Spray Mop
Brand: Vileda
Pros
- Microfibre Cleaning Pad
- Comes with mop head refill
- Built-in spray bottle
- Machine washable
Cons
- Tricky to refill
So, kicking off today’s review I have Vileda in the number one spot. Vileda is a very popular mop manufacturer in the UK and for a good reason. Their designs are user-friendly and make cleaning less of a chore. Their spray flat mop is no exception to this.
With a built in spray bottle, there’s no connection that can end up leaking everywhere. The handle is an easy to grip, trigger design that allows you to dispense a fine mist of cleaning solution and water in front of the mophead.
The microfibre cleaning pads are wide enough to tackle large areas and their absorbent nature means they are good to use on laminate floors and wooden floors as they won’t leave excess moisture everywhere. The swivel head means it easily navigates around and under furniture so no spots will go uncleaned.
This mop comes with an extra microfiber pad so you switch them out when they get dirty and once you’re done with mopping they can be cleaned in the washing machine.
The only issue I can find with this mop is that the built un spray bottle can be a bit tricky to refill. Depending on your sink, it may not fit under the tap and you either need to lay it down or get someone else to hold it whilst you top it up. It’s not a major issue and I feel it’s worth it to avoid leaking.
2. Runner Up – Vorfreude Floor Spray Mop
Brand: Vorfreude
Pros
- Machine washable microfibre pad
- 3 Colour Options
- 700ml Water Tank
- Large Mophead Size
Cons
- No pad refill
Next, I have Vorfreude with their take on the spray mop. It’s a bright and cheerful design and comes in 3 colour options (green, red and purple) so you can choose which one best suits you.
The water tank is a large 700ml which holds more than enough liquid for larger homes or for very thorough cleaning. This, plus the generous sized microfibre mop heads (42cm x 14cm) means you’ll get those floors sparkling in no time at all.
The fact that the water tank is refillable and the pads are machine washable means you’ll save money in the long run as you won’t need to keep on buying disposable add ons which makes it eco friendly as well. You can use whichever cleaning solution you like (or just water!).
This mop does not come with replacement heads but if you find you need extra ones, they’re available to buy on Amazon.
3. Best Budget Option – Addis Metallic Spray Mop
Brand: Addis
Pros
- Low Cost
- Swivel Head
- Refillable water tank
- Microfibre washable pads
Cons
- No refill pads included
For our low-cost spay mop option, I have the Addis metallic spray mop. It’s a simple and functional floor mop that works really well on most hard floor types. It has a refillable water bottle that fastens securely into the mop handle.
The mophead is a microfibre fleece material that absorbs dirt and grime well. It attaches with velcro and you can throw it in the washing machine when it’s dirty. As with our other microfibre spray mops, no bucket set is required. Simply use the trigger to release a controlled spray of floor cleaner and water.
This budget mop doesn’t come with replacement heads. If you need extra ones there is a model that comes with a refill but it’s a bit more costly or you can just buy the replacements from Amazon.
4. Best Spray Mop For Hardwood Floors – Leifheit Pico Spray Mop
Brand: Leifheit
Pros
- Wrap around microfibre cloth
- 800ml water tank
- Machine washable cloth
- Powerful spray
Cons
- Only for light cleaning
If you have a tile, stone, laminate or wood floor then this cleaning tool is ideal. The design of the Leifheit spray mop means no dirt will go unnoticed. The cloth wraps around the mophead so it picks up every last scrap of dust, dirt or grease. It’s made from my favourite microfibre and can be easily washed in the washer when it gets dirty.
The spray design is pump action to ensure you can a powerful delivery of cleaning solution no matter how full the tank is. The spray is still a fine enough mist to be ok on wooden floors and the water container is a huge 800ml so you’ll not run out in a hurry.
The mop is flexible and lightweight so easy to use but isn’t strong enough to tackle any areas that need to be scrubbed or a deep clean. I would only recommend this mop if it’s light mopping that you require.
5. Best Battery Powered Spray Mop – FLASH Powermop
Brand: Flash
Pros
- Dual Spray
- Battery powered
- Swivel head
- Comes with 10 refill cloths
Cons
- Cloths are not re-usable
Finally, in our top 5 I have the Flash battery Powermop. It uses batteries to dispense the correct balance of cleaning solution to loosen dirt on the floor which is then pulled into the cleaning pad leaving a hygienic and sparkling floor.
It has a dual spray outlet so dispenses evenly and the swivel head means this mop will leave no areas unclean. It’s safe to use on most hard floors including sealed laminate and hardwood but don’t use it on unsealed or oiled floors.
It works really efficiently and is a great option for those with arthritis or mobility issues as its easy to put together and simple to use. The only issue is that it’s not so great for the environment as the cloths are disposed of rather than washed after use. You will need to buy refills as well when you used up the 10 pack starter kit that comes with this cleaning mop.
Things To Consider When Buying A Spray Mop
Limescale
Unlike a standard string mop or sponge mop, the water dispensers in spray mops are sensitive to the water used. This isn’t an issue if the mop comes with cartridges but if you’re using tap water to fill them up you can end up with limescale building up. This clogs and will eventually break the mop. To avoid this use filtered, de-ionised water or de-scale the mop regularly.
Storage
Another consideration when buying a new mop is where are you going to store it. A vacuum cleaner cupboard is ideal but if you suffer from a lack of cupboard space in your home then you may want to consider alternatives. Some microfiber mops fold flat and have hooks built in to allow hanging storage which can be really useful.
Floor Type
For waterproof floors, any wet mop will be suitable. If you have wood or laminate you do need to consider carefully which cleaner is best. A microfibre flat mop is ideal as it’s super absorbent and can also be used dry as a dust mop or sweeper as well. If you need to deep clean a bathroom floor, a steam mop may be necessary or a scrubbing brush is useful alongside a standard mop.
Handle Design
The handle of the spray mop can actually really affect how useful and pleasant the mop is to clean with. A poor handle design can make the mop difficult to grip, the trigger may not work properly or the spray bottle may end up leaking. Another thing to look for is adjustable handle height. This allows you to set the mop to a height that suits you so you won’t end up with a sore back or shoulders from stooping over.
Look for a mop with a curved handle, easy-grip pad, and well-placed trigger.
F.A.Q.s
Which is the best spray mop?
The best spray mop is the Vileda 1-2 spray mop. It’s easy to use and has a tough yet scratch-free microfibre flat head that reaches everywhere. It’s designed for ease of use and stole the top spot in our review of spray mops UK.
Which is the best spray mop for laminate floors?
Any flat mop with a microfibre pad is ideal for laminate floors. The pad soaks up excess moisture as well as dirt and the flat head glides easily over the laminate.
What is the best smelling floor cleaner?
This really depends on your personal preferences. Pine fresh was the number one scent that customers voted for in 2019 but if you prefer lemon-fresh then that’s fine too.
What is the best cleaning solution?
If you want to try making your own cleaning solution then a mild dish soap mixed with warm water does just fine. Another option is adding some spirit vinegar and lemon juice into the mix to shift stubborn dirt and make your home smell fresh.
Why is the floor sticky after mopping?
Adding too much cleaning solution is often the reason that floors remain sticky after cleaning. Make sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions to achieve the correct dilution.
Other Spray Mops Reviewed
Mastertop Spray Mop Microfiber Flat Mop
Brand: Mastertop
Pros
- Comes with mophead refill
- Microfibre spray mop
- Swivel head
- 500ml water tank
Cons
- Poor product description
The Mastertop spray mop is a good all-rounder. It has a nice wide head for quick and easy cleaning plus a swivel joint to reach under furniture.
The mophead has a microfibre cloth cover which absorbs dirt and water with ease. This mop comes with two cloths so you can easily switch them out when they get dirty. The pads are reusable and machine washable so eco friendly.
Mastertop has increased the water tank size to half a litre so you won’t need to fill it up very often.
The mop itself is pretty good for the price, not the most sturdy but it does the job well enough.
The product description is a bit of a disaster however with claims like the pole is made out of aluminium and later on, it says it’s stainless steel. This doesn’t instil a lot of confidence in the buyer and that’s why it hasn’t made the top five.
MDrebel Microfiber Spray Mop
Brand: MDrebel
Pros
- 360 degree head rotation
- Scraper tool included
- Comes with a refill pad
- Ergonomic handle
Cons
- Bold claims by the manufacturer
This mop comes in red and purple colour options so you can choose whichever one best suits you. It’s a lovely design mop and the smooth, easy to grip handle makes it effortless to use.
The head is on a 360 degree rotating hinge so it moves around obstacles with ease. The mophead is a lovely soft microfibre pad and this model comes with a spare one included. If you need extra ones on top of this they are available to purchase on Amazon.co.uk.
If you have pets this mop is the one for you. It comes with a handy scrubber tool that can help remove pet hair from the mop head so it doesn’t get clogged up too quickly. This tool makes this mop useful as a duster when used dry as well.
The one thing I found offputting about this mop is the manufacturer’s claim that it improves the happiness index of your family. Far fetched, bold claims like this seem a bit sketchy. Apart from that, the mop works really well.
Winpok Floor Cleaning Mop
Brand: Winpok
Pros
- 2 reusable microfibre pads
- 360 degree swivel head
- Red and Green colour options
- dust scraping tool
Cons
- Small 300ml water tank
This is a nice and simple, sturdy spray mop. It comes with two pads that can go in the washing machine so are eco friendly and re-usable. It’s really simple to set up and no issues at all with the workings of it.
It comes in rather bright red and green colour options so good for a statement piece in the cleaning cupboard. The dust scraper tool is brilliant for pet hair, dust or if you have teenage daughters with long hair that loves to shed everywhere.
It’s flexible, absorbent and does everything you want a spray mop to do. The only issue is that the water tank is only 300ml so needs to be refilled frequently if you have large floor areas or a very dirty home.
Umi Essentials Dual-Sided Spray Mop
Brand: Umi
Pros
- Wet and Dry sides
- 500ml refillable bottle
- Machine washable microfibre pad
- Easy grip handle
Cons
- Bit bit flimsy
It’s flippin’ mad. This mop flips. This means you can keep one side wet for mopping and the other side dry for dusting or drying floors. It’s a really useful feature if you find you’re often carting loads of cleaning equipment around your home.
The mop is easy to use and comfortable to grip. It is made of the famous microfibre, a must for any versatile floor mop and this makes it safe to use on any floor type.
The only downside is the design is a bit flimsy and some people report it broke fairly soon after purchasing. I have had no issues with it but this is something to be aware of if you’re considering this as your next mop.
Bona Spray Mop
Brand: Bona
Pros
- Ergonomic handle design
- pH neutral cleaner
- Machine washable microfibre pad
- Swivel head
Cons
- Spray mechanism is prone to malfunction
Bona has developed this mop specifically for harder floor surfaces. It comes with a cartridge containing an environmentally friendly cleaning product. This saves the need for scrubbing as the microfibre cloth easily picks up dirt and grime and leaves your floor with a polished look.
The handle is ergonomically designed for a comfortable and secure grip which makes floor cleaning much easier. The flat head swivels and gets into tight corners and under furniture with ease.
When it’s working, this mop is really effective but some people have reported an issue with the spray mechanism. It seems that it sometimes fails. The good news is that if you do have an issue with it, you can easily return it to Amazon for a full refund if the product is found to be faulty.
Take Home
So that’s it. Spray mops are a really useful addition to any cleaning cupboard and are perfect for hardwood and laminate floors. They come with lots of extras and different features so I hope this article has helped clear up the option for you.
