It would be nice if all cleanups were the same. The reality is that some require little effort and some require bringing out the big guns.
With the Karcher K4 Full Control, you have the ideal tool for any job that you’re confronted with. Need to clean the grease from your barbecue? The Karcher can handle that. Then the patio concrete is covered in algae? Karcher K4 can not only handle that too but in short order thanks to 130 bars of pressure combined with 420 litres per hour of water flow.
You have just about any accessory you may need for any eventuality.
The pistol grip trigger has an LED that indicates the power setting and on its own is a great tool, but when mounted with the Vario lance it becomes an all in one tool that can tackle light jobs like a detergent presoak or a high pressure 0-degree blaster.
The Dirt Blaster has a well-deserved name as it can swiftly blast away dirt, debris, traffic film or algae. The T350 Racer can get your patio look in top shape in short time. It helps you cover a lot of ground quickly thanks to its ease of use and the rotating jets.
Overall: This power washer by Karcher is a Jack Of All Trades when it comes to versatility. It may be overkill to use it to just wash out your trash bins, but when you need some heavy duty cleaning done, you’ll have everything you need.
2. Best Power Washer for Cars – Nilfisk C 120 bar 120.7-6 X-TRA Compact Pressure Washer

- Click and Clean easy mounting accessory system
- Pistol grip trigger handle
- 360 degree rotation

Cons
- Soft bristle brush with squeegee sold separately
With 120 bars pressure, you get all the power you need and more to clean your car and more.
The accessories included can get you from start to finish with just about everything you need to detail your car like a valet. Though the brush with the squeegee is not included, in many cases you won’t be needing it.
Use the high-pressure power speed nozzle to blast away the stuck on dirt (careful around those tyres, though to not damage them with the high-pressure nozzle!). Then with the detergent bottle attachment, give your car a soak in your preferred car shampoo to lift away the grime and traffic film.
A final rinse with the fan spray lance to remove the soap and you’re done. Unless you have some heavy duty cleaning needed you may find you don’t need the brush after all.
The price makes this a great choice for a power washer dedicated to washing your car. To spend less than £100 puts in range of most budgets. And if you want to wash your car every few weeks then it will pay for itself in just a couple of months.
This Nilfisk is so easy to use thanks to the clever click and clean easy mounting system for the attachments. Plus, the 360 manoeuvrability will get you around the car easily just like at the self-service car washes.

3. Best for Patios – K7 Premium Full Control Plus Power Washer

Brand: Karcher
Pros:
- 180 bars pressure
- 550 litres per hour water flow rate
- Water cooled 2800 Watt motor
- LED display
- Includes: 3 in 1 multi jet lance, full control plus trigger gun, T450 patio cleaner
- Integrated water filter
- Plug and Clean detergent system
Cons
- Nothing obvious!
You may not always have a monumental task when it comes to cleaning your patio or decking, but it’s nice to know that if you do the Karcher K7 will dispatch any debris with ease.
Thanks to a whopping 180 bars of pressure, and 550 litres per hour of water flow, the K7 is easily the top of the line for power washers for patios. The all in one lance can use the high pressure to blast away even really stubborn moss that may have built up on your concrete.
Then, the T450 Racer Surface cleaner can cover a lot of ground to make it a short clean up that would normally take much longer with a weaker power washer. It can clean a 12-inch area at one time with rotating jets. Combined with high water flow rate and you have as close to the professional tool as you can get.
If there was anything to criticise I guess you could say that a 5-metre power cord might be a bit short for larger areas like a driveway or large patio. That is nitpicking in the extreme though!
It may not be budget friendly, but it should last a long time. The water-cooled engine keeps parts from wearing out too quickly.
Overall: This is such a powerful pressure washer for the home that it makes cleaning even the biggest jobs fun.

Pros:
- Lightweight at 4 kg
- Very compact and easy to carry
- 110 bars pressure
- 330 litres per hour water flow rate
- Includes: pistol grip trigger handle, fixed fan jet nozzle, detergent nozzle
- Quick connect settings
- Auto start and stop
Cons
- No wheels
- 3 metre hose is a bit short
For a light duty and compact power washer, I think this budget model Bosch pressure washer is a great purchase.
This cheap power washer is great for people who would rather do regular light tidying up instead of waiting for cleanups to become big jobs. If that’s you, then you don’t really need a high powered pressure washer.
Since it is compact, it is the ideal pressure washer for people living in flats or smaller homes. It only weighs 4 kg and can be carried easily, as well as stored in a closet.
The auto stop and start feature is helpful to not only conserve water but also to keep the motor from getting stressed which could lead to either a reduction in performance or total breakdown.
A high-efficiency pump keeps this little unit going at a high level so if you are faced with a larger job, the lower bar pressure won’t seem quite as low. It basically performs as a larger power washer than it really is.
If you hate doing windows, then do them with this smart power washer to make it fast and painless. Cleaning your barbecue needn’t be such a faff when you have a Bosch compact power washer. There are loads of other uses, so you will definitely be getting your money’s worth.
Overall: If you’re on a budget, lacking space or just need to do the occasional tidy up, then the Bosch power washer is probably just the ticket.
5. Best Petrol Choice – Wilks-USA TX750i Petrol Power Pressure Washer

Brand: Wilks

- 272 bars of pressure
- 720 litres per hour waterflow
- 7.0 horsepower engine
- Includes 5 nozzles, curved gutter lance, bonus turbo adjustable nozzle
- Drain cleaner attachment included
- On board nozzle storage
- Mains or water butt fed
- Oversized wheels

Need a quick clean up of your barbecue or want to clean the algae off of your patio? Great, the Wilks USA petrol pressure washer is the perfect tool for the job. Want to strip all the paint off of your house to repaint? Then, the Wilkes is also ideal for that!
To get a more versatile and powerful pressure washer, you would either need to hire a professional or spend thousands on the same kind a pro would use.
There is literally no job too big.
Clean your gutters with the angled lance. Blow out a clogged drain with the drain cleaner. Whatever the need, there is a tool. The five included nozzles range from pencil thin 0 degrees blaster to the 40-degree wide fan nozzle for washing. And everything in between.
Since the nozzles are made of ceramic they can last a lifetime with no risk of eroding. A convenient storage space on the frame will keep them handy and ready to go.
It’s perfect for using off-grid also since it can hook up to a water butt for when you aren’t near a mains water supply.
Starting it up is easy and the unit runs reasonably quiet considering it is a petrol pressure washer.
Overall: You would have to spend hundreds of pounds, if not more, to get a more powerful and versatile petrol pressure washer. If you have a lot of jobs around the house, garden or campsite then this would be a wise investment.

How to Choose the Best Pressure Washer
Whether you are looking to clean your car, or caravan, or patio, or any other type of job that requires a blast of pressurised water, there are a few universal things to consider.
Budget
I’ll start with the most obvious first. How much does a good pressure washer for the home cost? Well, how much do you have? That’s not to say that you have to spend a lot to get the best power washer, but you may have certain features in mind that you would like to have and how much you have to spend will determine if that’s an option for you.
Pressure
This is where your budget comes most into play. The range of pressure, measured in bars, goes from 90 bars to around 180 bars for household pressure washer models.
90 bars won’t get you much cleaning power but will be the cheapest pressure washer you can buy. Typical jobs for a 90 bar pressure washer is to clean up a bicycle or wash windows.
On the other end of the spectrum, 180 bars can do just about anything you need before getting into professional level power washing territory. From washing your barbecue to taking the pain off the siding of your house, there is no job too big for a 180 bar pressure washer.
For most of you readers, 130 bars of pressure is more than enough. You can still get enough cleaning power with 130 bars to clean the concrete of your patio or driveway, do your decking, clean out your gutters or blast the traffic film off of your car.
Water Flow
Measured in litres per minute, water flow goes hand in hand with pressure. For efficient cleaning, water flow plays a big part. All the pressure in the world doesn’t mean much if your water flow rating is slow.
For most jobs 320 litres per hour water flow will be more than enough to get the job done. If you are working a bigger area, you can still get by with type of water flow, it just will take you longer to get it done.
You can find pressure washers for home use with top water flow speeds of even 700 litres per minute. If you have frequent big jobs that you’d like to cut down on, then, by all means, go for the big guns. However, for most people that may be more than you will ever need.
A good water flow ratio is 320 litres per minute to around 500 or so.
Accessories
Even a minimalist will admit that it is usually better to have more tools at your disposal than not enough. Sure, you could use the lance that the pressure washer comes with and be fine for most jobs. But, having specialized lances, variable pressure nozzles or brushes means you can clean a wide range of items easily.
What attachments you need for your power washer will depend on what type of jobs you will be doing the most often.
In the review section, I will make sure I highlight what accessories the unit comes with and what they are used for.
Maintenance
There is not much upkeep associated with pressure washers. They’re pretty straightforward machines.
One rule of them, though is that petrol powered pressure washers generally have more maintenance required than the electric versions. The motors are generally 4 stroke and need to be filled with gas, oil needs to be changed occasionally and gas lines need to be checked for drying out. Not a lot of work, but something that needs to be noted.
Electric versions, on the other hand, require very little in the way of maintenance. The motors may not last as long as a petrol motor, but for most people they last long enough.
