1. Top Choice – iRobot Roomba 981 Robot Vacuum cleaner ideal for carpets
Pros
- Wi-fi connectivity
- Great for carpets and rugs
- Auto recharge feature
- Smart navigation<br>
Cons
- Relatively expensive
The iRobot Roomba 981 is my top choice for 2024 as it is a superb robot vacuum that comes with everything you’d want and expect from a vacuum in this price range, including wi-fi connectivity, multiple cleaning modes and powerful suction.
Something that immediately sets this vacuum apart from most other robot vacuums is that it does an excellent job of cleaning carpets and rugs. A lot of robot models simply don’t have the suction power to properly clean carpets and rugs, but that is not the case here.
In addition to doing a superb job of cleaning floors, the Roomba 981 also has some great features that make it incredibly fun to use. It has wi-fi connectivity, so you can control it using the iRobot home app or by connecting it to your home hub. It also has an automatic recharge feature and resumes cleaning afterwards.
As with all great quality tools, it costs more than average, however, nothing compared to Dyson or Miele robots.
Everything you need to get started is included in the box, including a charger, plug, 2 wall barriers, a side brush, extra filter and instructions. It comes with free one-day delivery for Prime members and a 2-year warranty.
Overall: The Roomba is classic, it’s become synonymous with a robot vacuum and because of that, it’s easily the top pick and the best balance of price and power.
2. Best Budget – Eufy RoboVac G30 Robot Vacuum Cleaner
Pros
- Wi-fi connectivity
- Quiet operation
- Suitable for hard floors and carpets
- 1 Year Warranty
Cons
- Not clear instruction
The Eufy RoboVac G30 Robot Vacuum Cleaner is my top budget robot vacuum cleaner in 2024 and it’s easy to prove my case given the excellent features and performance for a price below £200
Firstly, it has wi-fi connectivity, meaning you can use it with popular voice control services, such as Amazon Alexa. You can also control it through the EufyHome app.
It features BoostIQ technology, which means it automatically increases suction power when needed to ensure it does the best job possible. You can easily set it to clean only the areas you want by setting boundary strips and it has drop-sensing technology, which means you don’t have to worry about it falling down the stairs or dropping off steep ledges. It also goes back to the charging station then the battery has 20% left to auto-charge.
The only downside I had is at the start it could be a bit of a challenge to set it up properly, and once you dot that – you are golden.
Overall: This is an excellent robot vacuum and has pretty much every feature you’d want while doing a great job of cleaning hard floors and medium-pile carpets.
3. Best For Pet Hair – Bagotte BG600 Robot Vacuum Cleaner
Pros
- Excellent suction
- 6 cleaning modes
- Quiet operation
- 1 year warranty
Cons
- Quite expensive
- Not great on rugs
The Bagotte BG600 Robot Vacuum Cleaner is an excellent alternative to the Eufy vacuum and has many of the same features.
Firstly, this vacuum has excellent suction power, which makes it great for getting up pet hair and also for cleaning short-pile carpets. It has 6 different cleaning modes including modes for single room cleaning, edge cleaning and spot cleaning amongst others. It’s also self-cleaning, which can set it to do at a certain time.
Although this has excellent suction power for a robot vacuum, it doesn’t do particularly well with long-pile carpets or rugs, so this is definitely worth bearing in mind.
It comes with everything you need to get started included in the box and it’s very easy to set up and start using right away. You get a 1 year warranty included and Prime members get free delivery.
Overall: This is a very capable and feature-rich robot vacuum that does an excellent job of cleaning short-pile and hard floors as well as getting up pet hair.
4. Best Vacuum and Mop – Coredy R750 Robot Vacuum Cleaner, 3-in-1 Vacuuming Sweeping and Mopping
Pros
- Wi-fi connectivity
- Cleans and mops
- Suitable for hard floors and carpets
Cons
- On the more expensive side
The Coredy R750 Robot Vacuum is light, compact, easy to use and can vacuum hard floors and carpets as well as have mopping functionality.
It’s very easy to control using either the dedicated app, voice controls or the included remote control. It has 1600pa suction power, so it does a great job of cleaning hard floors and carpets – removing any dust, debris or hair.
The Boost-Intellect technology used means the Coredy R750 is able to seamlessly transition from hard floors to carpets and will increase its height and suction power automatically. You don’t have to worry about it running out of power either since it will seek out the charging station when it’s running low.
Included in the box are the vacuum itself, a water tank, mopping cloth, boundary strips, a filter, 4 side brushes, a remote control, 2x AAA batteries, a charging dock, a power adapter, a cleaning tool and instructions. It comes with a 12-month warranty and free delivery if you have Amazon Prime.
Overall: An excellent vacuum all around that is capable of cleaning hard floors and carpets well with the added bonus of mopping.
5. Best Luxury Pick – Dyson 360 Heurist Robot Cleaner
Pros
- Powerful suction
- Wi-fi connectivity
- Intelligent navigation system
- Quiet operation
Cons
- Extremely expensive
- Bulky compared to other robot vacuums
The Dyson 360 Heurist is an extremely powerful and intelligent robot vacuum that’s suitable for use on hard floors as well as carpets.
The first thing you notice about the 360 Heurist is its size. It’s considerably taller than most robot vacuums, at 12cm. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it’s worth bearing in mind. It features wi-fi connectivity, so you’re able to control it via Dyson’s Link app.
This vacuum is built to be extremely intelligent and constantly maps its route as it goes to avoid bumping into anything or straying off course. The brush stretches the full length of the device, so it cleans thoroughly wherever it goes. The LED light on the top means it’s also good at cleaning in low-light conditions.
The brush head is very close to the ground, which makes it excellent for picking up dirt from crevices on hard floors. The superb suction power also means this vacuum does a great job at deep cleaning carpets too.
Overall: The extremely high price point means this won’t be for everyone but there’s no doubt the cleaning ability of this vacuum is extremely impressive and it far outperforms most robot vacuums on carpets, in particular.
Advantages of a Robot Vacuum
Wi-fi connectivity
A lot of robot vacuums allow you to connect to your home hub or smartphone via wi-fi. This means you’re able to use your voice or an app to interact with them wherever you are.
Convenience is one of the main selling points of robot vacuums and being able to easily control them from your phone, tablet or home hub makes them that much more convenient.
Schedule cleaning
Another advantage of robot vacuums is that you’re able to easily schedule them to be cleaned on specific days or times.
Clean in hard-to-reach areas
Robot vacuums can also clean in hard-to-reach areas that other vacuums might struggle with, such as under chairs and in tight corners.
Disadvantages of a Robot Vacuum
Can get stuck
Although most modern robot vacuums are smart and can scan rooms to avoid obstacles, they can still get stuck from time to time. It’s not a huge deal but it can be annoying when you just want to set it to clean and forget about it.
Frequent emptying needed
Robot vacuums are designed to be small and compact. The downside to this is that they do need emptying frequently.
Can be expensive
Another downside of robot vacuums is they can be quite expensive, particularly for more fully featured models. You can get budget robot vacuums too but they don’t always do the best job.
Not good for stairs
It might seem obvious but robot vacuums don’t work on stairs, so if you’re looking for it to clean your entire house, you’re going to be disappointed.
What To Look For In A Robot Vacuum
Battery life
Battery life is a very important thing to consider when buying a robot vacuum. Generally the bigger the battery, the better since you’ll get more power and longer running life.
Remote control
A lot of robot vacuums have a remote control, making them very convenient to operate from anywhere in the room.
Brush type
Brush type is another thing to consider. A lot of newer models have a turbo brush bar for superior cleaning but sweeper brushes can still do a reasonable job too.
Capacity
The amount of dust and debris a robot vacuum can hold is worth thinking about too, since it’s going to affect how often you have to empty it.
F.A.Q
Are robot vacuum cleaners worth buying?
This depends. If you’re buying with a realistic expectation of what they can do i.e. quick and easy cleaning without too much effort required, then yes. If you’re looking for a replacement for your main vacuum that will clean everything perfectly, then no.
Do robot vacuums actually work?
The truth is that they vary quite a lot and some are much better than others. However, in most cases, a good robot vacuum will definitely help keep your floors cleaner and save you from having to use a manual vacuum as often.
How long do robot vacuums last?
A good robot vacuum will last a long time and will nearly always come with a warranty in case it does break down unexpectedly.
Can a robot vacuum replace a normal vacuum?
No. Robot vacuums are designed to be used in addition to a regular vacuum, not as a replacement for them. They cannot clean stairs and don’t have the same suction power as a traditional vacuum, so you’ll need to use both.
Do robot vacuum clean corners?
Yes. They typically do a good job of cleaning the corners of rooms and that is why a lot of people buy them in the first place. In fact, a lot of robot vacuums have brushes on the corners for better cleaning or are shaped to be able to get into corners well.

Conclusion
You should now be much better informed about robot vacuums than you were before you started reading this article.
Although robot vacuums aren’t yet a replacement for more traditional, mains-powered vacuums, they’re getting smarter and more powerful all the time. If you have thought about getting one for a while but haven’t quite been convinced, then now might be the time to take the plunge.
I’d like one last shout-out to Samsung which is new and I haven’t had a chance to review yet as well as the Eufy Robovac 11s, the Neato Botvac, and the iLife. A useful smart home is closer than you think!
