Step-by-Step Guide To Take Apart A Shark Navigator Lift-Away Vacuum Cleaner
This guide applies to the Shark Navigator Lift-Away (NV352 series) Vacuum cleaner. This is one of the best Upright vacuum cleaners for household cleaning.
Removal Of The Dust Cup
To remove the dust cup from the device, gently pull or slide the dust cup release to lift it. Then, dispose of all the dust in an external bin.
In specific Lift-Away models, a wand release button will detach the hose or wand from the device for further cleaning.
You can wipe it with a clean cloth or wash it with water. But, you must ensure that it is completely dry before you fix it back. It can take several hours to dry up.
Step 1 Ð Removal Of The Base Plate
You need to remove the base plate to access the brush bar and motor.
There will be eight screws, and all the screws need to be removed. Look for screws under the smaller front wheels and between the large back wheels.
Note that you will need a Shark vacuum screwdriver or a special star-shaped security bit for this task. A bit-holding screwdriver set can also be used if you have one.
This opens up access to the brush bar, belt, small hose, circuit board, and brush bar motor. After lifting the brush bard, you can easily unhook the belt from the motor.
Step 2 Ð Removal Of The Brush Roll Motor
To remove the brush motor and roll from your device to change the belt and clean the floor nozzle and other parts, follow the steps below:
Step 1 – Remove the four screws from the bottom plate of the cleaning head.
Step 2 – Then, remove the two screws under the front wheels and the two hidden between the main wheels. Once done, you can remove the plastic base.
Step 3 – Now, you will see the motor, roller, and belt. Lift the roller carefully, and you can see the belt.
Step 4 – You can replace the belt if required. You must also clean the roller and the brush motor carefully with a wipe cloth or brush. Use scissors to cut any attached hair or threads to the roller.
In some models, you might simply be able to lift it without a hassle. Once you remove the motor, use needle nose pliers to carefully remove the circuit board from the motor contacts.
Step 3 Ð Separation Of The Circuit Board
You need to remove two screws to take out the circuit board. A handle engagement switch beside the circuit board activates the brush bar when the handle is in the correct position.
Remove the whole swivel unit from the base plate by using the switch. Be careful and do it slowly so that nothing gets damaged in haste.
You might want to replace the circuit board as you remove it. Because in most cases, the faults can be due to damaged circuit board leads or connections on the board.
Step 4 Ð Disassembling The Motor Housing Unit
Remove the elbow-shaped pipe by pulling it towards you, but you must get a good grip first. It can be opened from the inside after dismantling the whole thing, but the earlier one is quicker and easier.
Step 5 Ð Removal Of The Side Latches
Now, remove the HEPA filter and cover at the front. This allows you to remove the side latches easily. Put the motor housing on the front and press the dowel pins holding the latches.
You might have to exert a little pressure with a centre-hole punch to unlock the pins. Remove the top filter after this.
Clean the HEPA filter thoroughly as per instructions in the manual and let it dry before you put it back.
Step 6 Ð Unlocking All The Screws From The Motor Housing
You must remove all the screws from the front plate. Check underneath the ‘loss of suction’ sticker as well. Keep a count of six screws altogether, which includes two from around the back of the handle holder.
Step 7 Ð Removal Of The Screws From Bottom
Remove all ten screws in the base. Then, take out the motor from the housing. You will also see a white plate covering the wires.
Unscrew the four screws holding the plate. Then, you can pull out the cord, which exposes the wires. You might need to remove two additional screws to altogether remove the cord if you need to replace it.
Step 8 – Detaching The Motor From The Device
Now, you can pull out the motor. You will see some wires (red, blue, and white) attached to it. To access these, pull out the base plate of the attachment of the device.
Then, use pliers to carefully pull out the wires and replace them, if required.
