Top 5 Best Mops UK
- Top Choice – Vileda 1-2 Flat Spray Mop
- Runner Up – MR.SIGA Professional Microfibre Mop
- Best Mop and Bucket Set – Vileda Turbo Microfibre Mop and Bucket Set
- Best Budget Option – Spontex Microfibre Twist Mop
- Best Mop For Wooden Floors – Bona Wood Floor Spray Mop Kit
1. Top Choice – Vileda 1-2 Flat Spray Mop
Brand: Vileda
Pros
- Spray Mop
- Pivot Head Reached Under Furniture
- Spare Microfibre Cloth Replacement
Cons
- Not suitable for unsealed hardwood
To kick off this mop review I have Vileda in the top spot. It doesn’t get much better than a flat mop for easy floor cleaning. The wide coverage and super absorbent microfibre pad are ultra-hygienic, removing the majority of dirt and bacteria with water alone.
This mop comes with a refillable spray bottle. You can use plain water or add the cleaning solution (which can be bought separately) for grime or very greasy floors.
No area of the home remains out of reach as the pivot head of this mop can get around and underneath furniture with no bother. The cleaning pad is machine washable up to 60 degrees and this mop comes with a replacement head so you can easily switch them out when one gets dirty.
The microfibre material used in this mop is scratch-free so suitable to use as a duster on all floor types and can be used as a wet mop on vinyl, sealed laminate, linoleum, tiles, and any other waterproof floor type.
The spray mechanism of this mop does need to be descaled if tap water is used. To avoid issues, use filtered, deionized water and make sure you empty the mop after each use.
2. Runner Up – MR.SIGA Professional Microfibre Mop
Brand: Mr. Siga
Pros
- 360 Swivel Pole
- Dirt Scrubber Included
- 3 Microfibre Refills
Cons
- Can be tricky to get the hang of
Next up I have Mr. Siga with their take on the microfibre flat mop. It utilizes a firm plastic clip to hold the microfiber pad in place so it’s not going anywhere as you mop. The microfiber mop head is fixed on a 360-degree swivel pole so it can get into all the hard-to-reach areas.
If you have pets then you’ll be familiar with pet hair clogging up the mophead. Even if you use the vacuum cleaner beforehand, hair seems to get everywhere! Well, this mop comes with a really useful scrubber tool that allows you to quickly remove this from the surface of the mop. It also makes this a great option for a floor duster. The soft pad is reversible and has a plush side which can be used for floor waxing.
This mop comes with 3 replacement heads so you can cover a very large area. The dirty heads are fine to go in the washing machine when you’re done mopping. You don’t need a heavy bucket of water to get the job done, a light spray with some water or suitable cleaning products is enough.
Most people get on great with this mop but the swivel head can be a bit tricky if you’re used to a more classic mop design. It needs a firm, even pressure and works better pulled rather than pushing it.
3. Best Mop and Bucket Set – Vileda Turbo Microfibre Mop and Bucket Set
Brand: Vileda
Pros
- Foot pedal wringer
- Telescopic Handle
- Machine Washable Head
Cons
- No replacement mop head included
If you prefer a string mop to clean floors then you’ll love this Vileda easy wring mop. It has a pedal wringing mechanism so you have complete control over how wet you’d like the mop to be. Simply introduce the wet mop to the wringer and hold the handle loosely. Use the foot pedal to activate the spinner and apply enough pressure to get the mop dry enough for the floor type.
The mop bucket has an easy pour spout so is easy to empty away the dirty water and the mophead has a special triangular design to get into tight corners. You can set the handle length to suit you so you don’t end up with backache after scrubbing the floor.
The wringer has a barrier that helps prevent splashes and spills. The mophead is a lovely soft material and the microfibre in it makes it very absorbable. It’s easy to remove and replace but the replacement heads do need to be purchased separately.
This mop works great on all hard floor types but do be cautious with untreated hardwood floors and unsealed laminate as excess water can damage these.
4. Best Budget Option – Spontex Microfibre Twist Mop
Brand: Spontex
Pros
- Integrated wringing mechanism
- Telescopic Handle
- Great Price
Cons
- Dirt can get too trapped in the fibres
This self-wringing mop by Spontex has the advantage of not needing a specially designed mop bucket. The microfibre fringes are great to loosen stubborn stains and it has a non-scratch, scrubber pad that can remove marks from the floor.
It has a telescopic handle that can be adjusted between 80 and 130cm to suit any height as well as allowing you to reach high up tiles in the bathroom.
It’s compact in design and has a hole in the handle so you can hang it up for easy storage. This mop is safe to use on tile, treated wood, vinyl, linoleum, and sealed laminate floors. It’s a bit too soft to use on stone surfaces.
An issue with this mop is it holds onto dust and dirt a little too well and can be difficult to get clean. The head is machine washable up to 40C and you can buy replacement heads on Amazon if needed.
5. Best Mop For Wooden Floors – Bona Wood Floor Spray Mop Kit
Brand: Bona
Pros
- Comes with wood floor cleaner
- Safe to use on all wooden floors
- Extra-wide 360-degree swivel head
Cons
- Weighs more than other mops
If you have sealed or unsealed hardwood, laminate floors, or French polished floors then this mop will be your perfect companion. The mop comes with an 850ml bottle of wood floor cleaner and a replacement microfibre mop head.
The bottle fits onto the mop handle as a cartridge and a spray mechanism allows you to dispense the cleaner as required. It can cover a wide area and the 360-degree swivel head allows it to navigate around furniture and other obstacles with ease.
This mop is the leading brand for wooden floor care and is a very popular choice. It does however have a couple of downsides. It is a lot heavier than other mop options so can be a bit tiresome to use. It’s also more expensive compared to other mops. If you buy it with a starter kit this can save a bit.
Things to Consider When Buying a Mop
Floor Type
The type of floors in your home really determines which mop you will need. Waterproof flooring like linoleum, vinyl, and tiles can cope with most mop types as excess water won’t damage them.
For wooden or laminate floors you need a mop that’s designed for the job. Something absorbent that won’t leave puddles of water as it goes. A custom-made, microfibre flat mop is often the best shout.
For stone and concrete, you need a heavy-duty mop that won’t wear away quickly.
Flat Mop Vs Mop & Bucket
A flat-head mop covers a wide area and is gentle on delicate floor types. Ones with a microfibre pad are very absorbent and clean floors very well. They are best used with a spray bottle of water or cleaning solution.
A traditional string mop and bucket set is better for waterproof floor types or wet rooms. They absorb more water than a flat mop when in use but do tend to leave floors wetter. When used dry they are ideal for spills. They are better for a thorough deep cleaning.
Area
The area needing to be cleaned should be considered before you buy a new mop. Flat mops come with different size heads so do vary in the area they can cover quickly. If you have a lot of furniture or narrow passageways in your home then you need a narrower mop that will navigate these easier.
Storage
Where you store the mop is important as cleaning products on display not only look untidy but can cause a trip hazard. If you have a large broom cupboard then a mop and bucket will be no issue. If you don’t have a cupboard free then look for a mop with a hook or hole in the handle as they can be stored hung up which is much tidier.
Refill Heads
The availability of mophead refills is really important. For disposable mopheads, you need to make sure you have an adequate supply to keep you going. For reusable mopheads, you need enough to clean every room in the house. For example, if the kitchen needs 2 pads to thoroughly clean it, the bathroom needs 1 and the hallway needs 1 then you’ll need 4 available for cleaning day. Either that or split the cleaning over 2 days to allow you to wash and dry the replacements.
Price
Probably the most important consideration when buying a new mop is the price tag. No matter how good a mop is, if it’s out of your budget range then it’s not a good choice. There are loads of options here for a large variety of budgets so make sure you check the current price by clicking the Price & Reviews button.
F.A.Q.s
What are the benefits of microfibre?
Microfibre is a synthetic material that is highly absorbent. It can lift and remove 99% of bacteria with water alone. It’s scratch-free durable and safe to use on most floor types. It’s also machine washable so can be reused.
Why use a spray mop?
A spray mop delivers a fine mist of water (plus or minus cleaning solution) in front of the mophead by the use of a trigger mechanism. It allows you to control when and where you need extra help to remove grime and stains and because it’s a fine mist, it won’t leave puddles of water everywhere. It also saves you from carrying heavy buckets everywhere with you.
What does the swivel head do?
The swivel joint allows a mophead to turn in all directions so it can reach dirt under and around furniture.
Can I use a mop on bathroom tiles?
Yes, you can use a mop to clean bathroom tiles. Whether they’re floor, wall, or ceiling tiles a mop will be able to reach up high and remove watermarks and grime.
Why does my mop leave streaks?
If you’re finding that the floors look streaky after you mop it’s likely due to the mophead becoming clogged up with dirt if it’s a flat mop or the water is needing to be changed if it’s a mop and bucket. Make sure you check the mophead and bucket regularly and change these to ensure you’re absorbing the dirt, not just moving it around.

Bona Stone, Tile & Laminate Spray Mop
Brand: Bona
Pros
- Rotating Head
- Ergonomic Design
- Environmentally Sound Cleaner
Cons
- A bit pricey
To complement the Bona wood mop, this mop is perfect for cleaning all other hard floor types. It is designed for linoleum, stone, terrazzo, vinyl, sealed porous marble, laminate, and tiles. It has an extra-wide mophead designed to easily handle a large area and the rotating hinge joint gets under furniture.
The easy-to-use, ergonomic handle and spray trigger deliver a fine mist of cleaning solution that loosens tough dirt and stains. The cleaning solution is environmentally sound and pH neutral so safe to use around pets and young children.
It leaves a sparkling shine with every clean and the mop comes with a microfibre cleaning pad and 850ml cleaner cartridge so you’re good to go straight away.
The only issue with this mop is, as with other Bona mops, it is pretty pricey. It’s a good quality product and you will get a great result but if your budget can’t stretch to this option then consider one of the others on our list.
EasyGleam Mop and Bucket Set
Brand: Easy Gleam
Pros
- Twin chamber bucket for wet and dry use
- Microfibre flat mop
- Compact and lightweight
Cons
- Possible fault with mophead
To give those floors a really deep clean you often need a sponge mop or mop and bucket set to soak up all the dirty water. This clever design removes the need for a heavy bucket due to the compact and lightweight one. The bucket is a slim design with two chambers, one wet and one dry. As you go, you insert the dirty mophead into the wet chamber to wash it and then into the dry side to remove excess moisture. This gives you excellent control over how wet you need the mop to be.
It’s ultra-absorbent thanks to the wide, microfibre mophead and is suitable for most hard floor types. The mop comes with two microfibre pads and these are machine washable at 30 degrees so are reusable.
This mop can be used with water alone or any cleaning solution you like.
A couple of people have reported an issue with the mophead breaking after several uses. Thankfully, Easy Gleam is a customer-friendly company, and are happy to replace this if you send them a message.
Spin Mop with Foot Pedal Bucket
Brand: Masthome
Pros
- Stainless Steel Wringer
- Drain Plug In Bucket
- Comes with 3 microfibre mophead refills
Cons
- Bucket handle is a bit flimsy
- Quite expensive
For a mop and bucket set, this spin mop by Masthome has loads of really unique features. Let’s start with the mop itself.
The string mop is made with microfibre so is ultra-absorbent, scratch-free, and safe to use on most hard floor types. The handle comes in 3 parts which makes it possible to set at a height that best suits you. It has a buckle that you open that allows the mophead to swivel in the wringer as you hold the handle still.
The bucket has a lot of great design features as well. It has a 6-litre capacity but you won’t struggle to empty it as it has a plughole in the bottom. The wringer is made from solid stainless steel and it’s activated by a foot pump mechanism to dry out the mop. There’s also an agitator in the water section of the bucket which thoroughly rinses the mop and loosens any dirt.
The mop comes with 3 mophead refills and 5 microfibre cloths for general cleaning use if you’re set up for a long time. It is pretty pricey but the overall design and what you get for the money makes this a worthwhile purchase.
The only issue I’ve found with this mop is that the plastic handle on the bucket is a bit flimsy which is a shame as the rest of it is so well-designed. You do have to be careful when using it as it looks like it’s prone to cracking.
Tyroler Floor Mop
Brand: Tyroler Bright Tools
Pros
- Swivel Head
- Ultra-slim design
- Silicone Head
Cons
- Issues with Handle
This ultra-lightweight and slim profile mop will get into hard-to-reach areas without a hitch. The handle is made of hollow metal that screws together and the mophead is a silicone material. This makes it soft and gentle to use yet still durable.
A swivel hinge allows the mophead to fold with an extremely low profile so it can manage the hard-to-reach areas. It has a microfibre pad that easily fastens onto the silicone with a hook and loop system so no breakable plastic clips. It comes with a refill pad and these are machine washable so eco-friendly.
The handle comes in 4 parts so the height is adjustable to suit you. It’s a hollow, lightweight metal so very easy to use but the screw clips can end up splitting if you’re not careful when using it.
Bellababy Spray Mop
Brand: Bellababy
Pros
- Spray Mop Plus Window Cleaner
- 4 Microfibre Pad Refills
- Easy Grip Handle
Cons
- Not suitable for untreated hardwood
Last but not least I have Bellababy with this flat mop with a spray bottle. The handle of the mop is an ergonomic design that makes the trigger comfortable to use. It also has a soft grip section on the pole so you can apply even pressure with comfort.
The sturdy, aluminium pole has the water container attached and you can fill this with any cleaning solution, bleach, or just plain water. The microfibre mop head is safe to use on most hard floor types and this mop also comes with a window cleaner attachment. This has a squeegee to give a streak-free finish.
You get 4 microfibre pad refills included with this mop and they are safe to clean in the washing machine.
It isn’t suitable for use on untreated wooden floors or unsealed laminate so if you have these floors consider a wood-friendly mop instead.
